Hank Asbill was quoted on February 12, 2020 in a Wall Street Journal article, “Trump praises Barr for ‘taking charge’ in Roger Stone case,” which discussed President Trump’s appreciation towards Attorney General William Barr for “taking charge” of the Roger Stone case following the Justice Department’s decision to recommend less prison time for Stone. The article stated, “A number of defense attorneys not involved in the Stone case said they planned to cite the revised filing for the benefit of their own clients, since it showed the government mentioning factors more often found in defense memos. It made reference to mitigating circumstances like Mr. Stone’s age and health; the need to eliminate disparities in prison terms, and an assertion that it was ‘unclear to what extent the defendant’s obstructive conduct actually prejudiced the government.’”

Asbill noted, “Every defense attorney in America is going to be citing this filing. I’ve never seen anything like it from the government.”
