Andrew L. Sandler Quoted in Reuters Article, "U.S. Court Rules CFPB Structure Unconstitutional, Bureau Can Still Operate"

Andrew L. Sandler was quoted on October 12, 2016 in a Reuters wire story following a U.S. Court of Appeals decision, which found the structure of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) to be unconstitutional. The article reported the three-judge panel concluded that the agency’s structure was unconstitutional, after determining the agency “gives its sole director too much power.”

However, the decision could have been worse for the CFPB. Sandler noted, "The CFPB has dodged the biggest bullet, which is to be declared unconstitutional and have all its prior rules and regulations voided."

Although the CFPB’s prior rules and regulations remained intact, Sandler indicated, “lawyers will be looking hard” at decisions involving the agency’s previous enforcement efforts.
